Casper 2.0 has officially launched on the mainnet on May 6, 2025. The upgrade, announced by the Casper Association, aims to power decentralized applications tailored for real-world asset (RWA) use cases—an area seen as a major growth vector for blockchain technology.
CEO Matt Schaffnit highlighted the network’s ambition to foster a more developer- and business-friendly environment to accelerate the adoption of RWA applications. Key features of Casper 2.0 include instant, deterministic finality; native upgradability for smart contracts; and built-in access control mechanisms, all designed to bridge identity, ownership, and value across industries.
The core technological enhancement is the new Zug consensus mechanism, delivering instant transaction finality—a crucial aspect for delivering legal certainty and a better user experience. The update also allows smart contracts to be natively upgradable, enabling developers to adjust to regulatory or technical requirements without the need for complex workarounds.
Casper 2.0 is built to support RWA integration by incorporating operational and legal structures found in traditional finance, positioning the network as a leading contender in the growing RWA tokenization sector.
