Tether has announced the deployment of its native USDT stablecoin on the Kaia blockchain, a Layer 1 network launched in August 2024. The integration will incorporate USDT into the Mini Dapp platform and self-custodial wallet within the popular Japanese messaging app LINE. This move provides users with the ability to utilize USDT for in-app payments, cross-border transfers, and DeFi activities, directly inside the LINE ecosystem.
The initiative targets LINE's massive user base of over 200 million, unlocking new digital dollar functionalities for everyday transactions across Asia. Users will also be able to receive rewards in USDT by completing tasks within Mini Dapps, and send/receive the stablecoin via LINE's in-app wallet. Tether views the launch as a strategic move to make stablecoins more accessible to mainstream users in the region. The rollout follows Tether's recent $1 billion USDT minting on Tron, further expanding its total circulating supply and presence across blockchains. According to company leadership, enhanced accessibility via Kaia Chain and LINE will help establish a 'dollar-based gateway' for millions in Asia. Tether also reported strong financial results in Q1 2025, including a $1 billion operating profit driven by its Treasury holdings.
