Bhutan has become the first nation to launch a nationwide crypto-enabled tourism payment system through a partnership with Binance Pay and DK Bank, part of Druk Holding and Investments. The new platform allows international visitors to use over 100 different cryptocurrencies—including Bitcoin (BTC) and Binance Coin (BNB)—for booking flights, hotels, and various tourism services across Bhutan.
Payments made via the Binance app are instantly converted into Bhutanese Ngultrum and processed by DK Bank, reducing currency exchange risks and transaction delays. Over 100 local businesses have adopted the system, empowering rural and small-scale vendors by expanding access to digital payments and global tourists.
This initiative is aligned with Bhutan’s goals of fostering financial inclusion, supporting entrepreneurship, and driving sustainable development. The system meets local regulatory standards to protect customer privacy and security. Binance CEO Richard Teng called the collaboration transformative for the travel industry and suggested that Bhutan’s example could inspire similar blockchain-driven partnerships worldwide.
