Brave Browser has partnered with Unstoppable Domains to launch .brave, a blockchain-based NFT domain system minted on the Polygon network. These domains provide users with decentralized, user-owned digital identities and support decentralized websites via IPFS.
The initiative enhances Web3 engagement by integrating .brave domains into Brave Wallet, simplifying crypto transactions and giving users greater control over their digital presence. The domains function without renewal fees and support resolution across multiple blockchains including Ethereum, Solana, Base, Sonic, and Bitcoin.
Brave CTO and Co-founder Brian Bondy emphasized the mission to restore privacy, ownership, and control to users within the Brave ecosystem. The rollout is scheduled for Brave Browser version 1.81, initially via Nightly builds with a full release expected by August 2025.
Plans are underway to register .brave with ICANN by 2026 to enable interoperability across traditional Web2 and emerging Web3 infrastructures, addressing current limitations of blockchain domains.
The collaboration builds on Brave's previous partnerships, such as integrating Cardano blockchain support into Brave Wallet, and hints at future features including potential Cardano Midnight sidechain integration for privacy-focused smart contracts and NFT access models.
Unstoppable Domains' COO Sandy Carter highlighted the broad potential of blockchain-based digital identities in sectors like healthcare, envisioning more secure and accessible data controlled by users. The launch of .brave domains follows previous Unstoppable Domains innovations, including city-specific domain launches.
