The Solana Foundation, in collaboration with the Solana Identity Group and key partners including Civic and Trusta Labs, has announced the launch of the Solana Attestation Service (SAS), a new digital identity verification protocol operating on the Solana mainnet.

SAS aims to enhance compliance, user experience, and security across the Solana ecosystem by providing an open, permissionless, and interoperable platform for verifying credentials such as KYC, investor certification, legal jurisdiction, and reputation. It enables users to link off-chain data securely to their Solana wallets, facilitating reusable and signed identity documents that preserve privacy without exposing sensitive information on-chain.

The service targets increased adoption and growth within Solana's decentralized finance (DeFi) and gaming sectors by streamlining regulatory compliance and enabling programmable, scalable trust layers that developers and applications can easily integrate using the SAS SDK.

This new infrastructure innovation follows the model of other decentralized identity solutions like Ethereum's ENS, encouraging higher compliance standards and more seamless onboarding of users to blockchain applications.

Although no new financial capital has been specifically allocated to SAS yet, experts anticipate that the improved compliance environment and enhanced user experience could boost the utility and adoption of SOL, Solana's native token, as the service bolsters the network's infrastructure.
