Mercuryo, a leading global payments service provider in the cryptocurrency space, has integrated Passkey, a cutting-edge biometric authentication technology, to enhance security and user experience for fiat-to-crypto payments. This integration allows users to authorize payments using biometric data such as fingerprint or face recognition without requiring traditional one-time passcodes (OTP) sent via email or SMS, which are vulnerable to phishing and malware.
Passkey, originally developed by the FIDO Alliance, encrypts login credentials and stores them directly on users' personal devices. When logging in, the device proves possession of the credential via a screen lock, eliminating reliance on passwords or OTPs. The feature is supported on iPhone, Android, and Windows systems.
The rollout will encompass Mercuryo’s vast network of over 200 partners, including prominent non-custodial wallets like Trust Wallet. Petr Kozyakov, Mercuryo’s CEO, emphasized that this advancement not only provides a more intuitive and secure login process but also underpins the company’s commitment to advancing mainstream adoption of Web3 and cryptocurrency payments globally.
By removing friction from user access and strengthening protection against AI-era cyber threats, Mercuryo aims to alleviate one of the main hurdles in Web3: the often-complex login and authorization steps. Passkey’s robust encryption adds a critical security layer, protecting users from common digital attacks and sophisticated threats.
