Tether has announced it will terminate USD₮ support on five blockchains—Omni, Bitcoin Cash SLP, Kusama, EOS, and Algorand—effective September 1, 2025. This decision follows a strategic infrastructure review citing declining usage and a shift toward more scalable networks. Remaining tokens will be frozen, with redemptions halted after the deadline.

According to data shared by Tether, Omni—USDT's original issuance layer—now holds just $82 million of its historical $888 million supply. Bitcoin Cash SLP retains under $1 million (from $5 million issued), while Kusama has $250,000 left ($3.5 million issued). EOS and Algorand show minimal activity, with under $5 million and $1 million remaining, respectively.

CEO Paolo Ardoino stated: "Ending support for these legacy chains allows us to focus on platforms offering greater scalability and community engagement." Tether will prioritize Ethereum, Tron, and emerging Layer 2 networks, aligning with its goal to optimize resource allocation amid evolving market demands. Users must migrate assets before the September cutoff.
