Early Ethereum ICO Participant Sells $9.9M in ETH, Retains Significant Holdings

yesterday / 09:28

An anonymous participant from Ethereum's 2014 initial coin offering (ICO) sold 2,300 ETH worth approximately $9.9 million via a cryptocurrency exchange, according to on-chain data tracked by analytics platforms. The transaction, detected on August 11, 2025, originated from a wallet that originally held 20,000 ETH allocated during Ethereum's crowdsale.

The seller retains 1,623 ETH ($6.8 million at current prices), maintaining substantial exposure to Ethereum. Market analysts observed minimal immediate price impact due to Ethereum's deep liquidity, with daily trading volumes routinely exceeding $10 billion absorbing the sale without significant disruption. An anonymous cryptocurrency analyst noted: "The sale of 2,300 ETH from an early ICO wallet typically has limited direct price impact, given ETH’s deep liquidity."

This event reflects recurring profit-taking behavior among early Ethereum investors, with historical patterns showing such transactions rarely trigger sustained price volatility without additional market catalysts. The Ethereum Foundation has not commented on the transaction.
