Sonic Labs has officially launched Testnet 2.1 on August 12, 2025, introducing compatibility with Ethereum's Pectra upgrade to enhance scalability, developer experience, and cross-chain interoperability. The upgrade enables seamless interaction with Ethereum-based assets—including full support for ERC-20 and ERC-721 token standards—facilitating straightforward asset migration and reducing technical barriers for developers.

Testnet 2.1 achieves a throughput of 400,000 transactions per second (TPS), a benchmark validated under simulated real-world workloads. This performance leap positions Sonic as a high-performance Layer 1 contender capable of supporting demanding dApps like DeFi protocols and NFT platforms. The upgrade also includes optimized developer tools featuring intuitive APIs, improved debugging, and streamlined deployment pipelines to accelerate dApp development.

Community feedback is being actively solicited to refine the platform ahead of Sonic's mainnet debut, though no firm launch date has been set. Concurrently, Sonic's native token S is gaining traction in DeFi, notably integrated with Aave—which holds over $38 billion in total value locked—and backed by a 400,000 S-token investment in cross-chain banking platform Silo Labs.
