Interpol has announced the results of Operation HAECHI VI, a massive international law enforcement effort conducted from April to August 2025, which recovered a total of $439 million in assets from cyber-enabled financial crimes. The operation involved collaboration among authorities from over 40 countries and targeted various scams, including voice phishing, romance scams, investment fraud, and money laundering.
Key outcomes include the freezing of approximately 400 cryptocurrency wallets and 68,000 bank accounts. The recovered assets consisted of $342 million in traditional currencies and $97 million in physical and digital assets, though specific figures for crypto seizures were not detailed. This initiative is the sixth phase of the HAECHI project, supported by South Korea, and follows previous phases that led to 5,500 arrests by November 2024.
Theos Badege, Director of Interpol’s Financial Crime and Anti-Corruption Centre, stated: "While many people believe that funds lost to fraud and scams are often irretrievable, the outcomes of HAECHI operations demonstrate that recovery is indeed possible." Notable cases include the arrest of 45 individuals in Portugal for siphoning funds from vulnerable families, and a $6.6 million seizure in Thailand—the country's largest recovery to date. Separately, Eurojust reported arrests in a $116 million fraud ring affecting five EU countries.
