According to a new report from Electric Capital, Ethereum has solidified its position as the top blockchain ecosystem for developer growth in 2025, adding 16,181 new developers from January to September. This significantly outpaces competitors, with Solana ranking second at 11,534 new developers and Bitcoin in third with 7,494 new developers.

The data, which uses deduplication to count each developer only once per ecosystem, also reveals active developer totals: Ethereum leads with 31,869 active developers, followed by Solana at 17,708 and Bitcoin at 11,036. Other ecosystems like Polygon, Sui, BNB Chain, and Polkadot showed steady engagement but trailed behind the top three.

Ethereum's dominance is attributed to its expanding Layer 2 rollup ecosystem, upcoming protocol upgrades such as Fusaka and Glamsterdam, and robust open-source culture. The Ethereum Foundation noted, "By a wide margin, developers new to crypto prefer the Ethereum ecosystem," emphasizing its strong documentation and tooling.

Solana's growth is driven by high-performance features like the Alpenglow consensus upgrade, which reduced finality to under 150 milliseconds, making it attractive for AI, gaming, and DeFi projects. Bitcoin's resurgence reflects increasing interest in Layer 2 scaling solutions like the Lightning Network and Ordinals-based applications.

This consistent influx of talent underscores Ethereum's role as the center of Web3 innovation, while Solana and Bitcoin maintain strong momentum in a diversifying blockchain landscape.
