Solana Mobile Ends Support for Saga Smartphone After Just Over Two Years

Solana Mobile has discontinued software and security updates for its first-generation Saga smartphone, announced on Monday, marking the end of its support lifecycle after approximately two years since its launch in April 2023.

The company confirmed that 20,000 Saga devices will no longer receive updates or security patches, leaving them potentially vulnerable to risks and incompatible with new software over time. A community manager in the Solana Mobile Discord stated, “Software updates and security patches are no longer provided for Saga devices,” while thanking users for their role in the journey.

The Saga, an Android phone with integrated crypto features like a secure seed vault and decentralized app store, initially saw limited interest but gained popularity in late 2023 due to valuable airdrops from Solana-based memecoins, which sometimes exceeded the phone's retail price. Its final update was to Android 14, with the last security patch in November 2024.

This support duration of just over two years is significantly shorter than industry standards, where Apple and Google provide five to seven years of updates for their devices. Solana Mobile's focus has now shifted entirely to its second phone, the Seeker, which began shipping in August 2025 after receiving over 150,000 pre-sale orders. The Seeker offers upgraded hardware, features like SeekerID, and plans for a native ecosystem token, SKR, intended to align incentives for builders and users, though specific token details have not been disclosed.

While Saga devices remain functional and wallets can be restored on other devices using standard seed protocols, customer support is now limited to general inquiries only.
