Nintendo has increased its sales forecast for the Switch 2 gaming console to 19 million units for the fiscal year ending March 2026, up from the previous projection of 15 million units. This revision follows the console's successful launch in June 2025, with 10.36 million units sold as of September 30, 2025, making it one of the fastest-selling video game consoles ever.
The company reported robust financial results for the quarter ending September 30, with revenue reaching 527.2 billion yen ($3.7 billion), exceeding market expectations of 461.76 billion yen. Net profit surged to 102.9 billion yen, a 270% year-on-year increase, and operating profit forecasts were raised by 16% to 370 billion yen. Software sales contributed significantly, with 11.95 million units sold in the quarter, driven by hits like Mario Kart World (9.57 million units) and Donkey Kong Bonanza (3.49 million units).
To meet sustained demand, Nintendo has requested manufacturing partners to produce up to 25 million Switch 2 units by March 2026, addressing initial shortages. The company also increased its net sales projection to 2.25 trillion yen from 1.9 trillion yen and raised advertising spending by 80% to 64.6 billion yen. Looking ahead, Nintendo plans to leverage new game releases, such as Pokémon Legends: Z-A and upcoming titles like Kirby Air Riders, to maintain momentum during the holiday season.
