Verizon Business and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have signed an agreement to construct high-capacity, long-haul fiber routes that will link AWS data centers, aiming to provide resilient, low-latency network infrastructure essential for advancing artificial intelligence (AI) applications. The partnership, announced on November 3, 2025, focuses on the Verizon AI Connect solution, which will enhance the performance and reliability of AI workloads by enabling high-performance network connections.
Scott Lawrence, SVP and Chief Product Officer at Verizon Business, emphasized that "AI will be essential to the future of business and society, driving innovation that demands a network to match." He added that this deal underscores Verizon's commitment to meeting the growing demands of AI workloads. Prasad Kalyanaraman, Vice President of AWS Infrastructure Services, noted that the collaboration builds on AWS's longstanding commitment to secure and efficient cloud infrastructure, allowing customers across industries to develop reliable AI applications at scale.
The agreement expands an existing strategic partnership between Verizon and AWS, which includes Verizon's use of AWS as its preferred public cloud provider for digital transformation projects and joint development of private mobile edge computing solutions. This has already yielded benefits in sectors like manufacturing, healthcare, retail, and entertainment.
This move aligns with broader trends in cloud provider investments driven by AI demand. Recent financial reports show that major cloud providers, including Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet, reported accelerated revenue growth in Q3 2025. For instance, AWS sales grew 20% year-over-year to $33 billion, while Microsoft's overall sales increased 13% to $70.1 billion, with diluted earnings per share up 18%. Cloud giants are ramping up capital spending, with Microsoft planning to invest up to $140 billion next year to support AI infrastructure, reflecting the explosive growth in machine learning and AI technologies.
