Bitfury, a leading Bitcoin mining and blockchain technology company, has unveiled a groundbreaking $1 billion investment initiative focused on ethical technology development. The company revealed that the funds will be deployed in phases, with $200 million allocated for the first year and the remaining $800 million invested over subsequent years, starting as early as Q4 2025.
The investment targets four key technological areas: artificial intelligence (AI) with an emphasis on ethical systems, quantum computing, decentralized systems, and self-sovereign identity (SSI). Bitfury aims to bridge the gap between rapid technological innovation and evolving ethical frameworks, addressing concerns like data privacy and algorithmic bias.
Val Vavilov, CEO and co-founder of Bitfury, stated, "We aim to unite mission-driven investors and founders to build technologies that make people more independent, creative, and free." George Kikvadze, Vice Chairman, added, "Our mission is to support science-driven ventures that advance humanity while ensuring innovation serves the common good." The initiative will support startups and ventures in AI, blockchain, and energy-efficient computing, leveraging Bitfury's legacy in incubating companies like Cipher Mining and Axelera AI.
Despite this diversification, Bitfury remains committed to its Bitcoin mining operations, positioning the investment as a strategic expansion rather than a departure from its core business.
