Uber Technologies, in partnership with Chinese autonomous vehicle company WeRide, launched a fully driverless robotaxi service in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. This marks Uber's fourth driverless market and the first robotaxi service in the Middle East, operating in specific areas of Yas Island.
Riders can book WeRide robotaxis through UberX or Uber Comfort options, with the ability to select an autonomous option in the app to increase chances of a driverless ride. On-board support is available via the Uber app and an in-vehicle tablet for assistance during journeys.
The Uber-WeRide partnership was formalized in September 2024, with testing beginning in Abu Dhabi in December 2024 using vehicles with safety operators. The companies expanded to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in October 2025 with similar supervised services. Uber plans to expand the WeRide service to 15 additional cities over the next five years, including European markets.
Globally, Uber has robotaxi partnerships with Waymo in the U.S. (Phoenix, Austin, Atlanta) and signed a six-year deal with Lucid and Nuro in July 2025. Financially, Uber reported Q3 revenue of $13.47 billion and net profit of $6.63 billion, up from $11.19 billion revenue and $2.61 billion profit year-over-year. Bank of America analyst Justin Post maintained a Buy rating with a $119 price target.
WeRide, listed on Nasdaq, operates driverless services in Beijing and Guangzhou, but Uber has not disclosed revenue-sharing details with partners.
