Ethereum Fusaka Hardfork Launches December 3 to Enhance Scalability and L2 Efficiency

Ethereum is preparing to activate the Fusaka hardfork on December 3, 2025, a key upgrade aimed at resolving the network's blob capacity bottleneck and improving scalability for Layer 2 solutions.

The current limit of six blobs per block has nearly reached capacity, hindering efficient data management between Layer 1 and Layer 2 protocols. Fusaka will introduce a gradual increase in blob capacity to prevent network congestion, with the first post-hardfork fundraising scheduled for December 9.

A central feature of Fusaka is the PeerDAS (Peer Data Availability Sampling) system, which allows EVM nodes to verify data availability without downloading the entire blockchain. This innovation enhances node efficiency, reduces computational load, and accelerates transactions, making it one of the most anticipated developments following the Pectra upgrade.

The upgrade's second phase, the Blob Parameter Only (BPO) fork, is set for January 7, 2026, and will raise the blob capacity per block from 6 to 14—a 133% increase. This boost is expected to support higher transaction volumes and optimize L2 operations, advancing a more scalable ecosystem.

Looking forward, Fusaka will be complemented by additional BPO forks in 2026, a planned gas limit increase, and the Ethereum Gloas-Amsterdam mega-upgrade in late 2026, which incorporates 25 EIPs and aims to halve block time, further enhancing network capacity and efficiency.
