SKALE, a Layer 1 blockchain, has launched a groundbreaking Ethereum Layer 3 network on Base, Coinbase's Layer 2 solution, as of late November 2025. This new network, called SKALE on Base, is specifically designed for AI agent workloads and integrates with the x402 payments protocol incubated by Coinbase.

The network eliminates gas fees entirely, offering lightning-fast transaction finality and enhanced privacy for sensitive AI operations. It allows AI agents to autonomously execute tasks using the x402 protocol without cost barriers. SKALE on Base leverages SKALE's scalable infrastructure and Base's liquidity, users, and distribution channels. Users can pre-pay for compute credits using USDC or SKL tokens, and the system includes protections against malicious MEV attacks via the BITE Protocol.

This launch is part of SKALE's multi-chain initiative, SKALE Expand, aimed at creating a consistent execution environment for AI agents across multiple blockchain ecosystems. The goal is to enable agents to operate seamlessly without relearning gas models or user experiences on different chains, potentially catalyzing innovation in decentralized AI applications.
