Ripple's Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, has publicly launched a new hub running on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) and is calling on the community to connect to it. The hub, which operates on rippled version 2.6.2, has been running successfully for over a week without issues, providing live data on traffic throughput, peer connections, uptime, and latency.
In response to community questions, Schwartz outlined three key reasons for initiating this project. First, he had not been running any XRPL infrastructure for several years and wanted to start anew. Second, he aimed to address instances of increased latency between validators, believing a "megahub" could significantly reduce network latency and diameter while improving reliability. Third, he sought to investigate localized performance issues on the XRPL by using the hub to test his theories on their root causes.
This development follows Schwartz's August announcement of a custom server built to support XRPL, intended to provide real connectivity and gather crucial data on network traffic behavior. It also comes amidst his planned transition from the role of CTO by the end of 2025 to become "CTO Emeritus," where he will remain involved with Ripple and join its board of directors while focusing more on hands-on development and community engagement within the XRP ecosystem.
