Cronos, the EVM-compatible Layer-1 blockchain powered by Crypto.com, has announced a strategic partnership with Upbit, one of South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchanges. The core initiative of this collaboration is the integration of $CRO staking directly onto the Upbit platform, making it available to millions of Korean users starting January 6, 2026.
The integration allows Upbit users to stake their $CRO tokens with just a few clicks, with the exchange operating the validator nodes on their behalf. This move is designed to significantly lower the technical barriers to entry for on-chain participation, removing the need for users to manage infrastructure, navigate wallets, or understand validator mechanics. Upbit maintains a highly selective staking list, currently supporting fewer than ten digital assets, making $CRO's inclusion a notable vote of confidence.
Ryan Wyatt, CEO of Cronos Labs, emphasized the strategic importance of the move: "This partnership with Upbit represents a deliberate step towards expanding participation in the Cronos ecosystem in one of the world’s most active crypto markets. By enabling staking directly on the exchange, millions of Korean users gain a seamless path into Cronos without the usual on-chain complexity."
The partnership targets South Korea, a market identified as historically important for $CRO with a strong existing user base. By offering staking through a trusted local platform like Upbit, Cronos aims to tap into growing user interest in activities beyond simple trading, fostering deeper, long-term engagement with its network. This initiative reflects a broader industry trend of exchanges making on-chain participation more accessible to retail users.
