Bitmine Immersion Technologies, Inc. has executed a dual-pronged strategic move, significantly expanding its Ethereum holdings and staking activity. The company announced the acquisition of 32,977 ETH, bringing its total holdings to over 4.14 million ETH, valued at more than $14 billion as of the final week of 2025. This acquisition solidifies Bitmine's status as the largest Ethereum holder globally, controlling over 3.43% of the total ETH supply.
In a separate but related action, the cryptocurrency investment firm BitMine (BMNR) staked a monumental $344.4 million worth of Ethereum. According to real-time data from analytics platform Onchain Lens, the firm deployed 109,504 ETH over a two-hour window. This staking transaction brings BitMine's total staked assets to a staggering 908,192 ETH, with an approximate market value of $2.95 billion. Notably, this staked amount represents only a portion of the firm's broader treasury, which as of January 5 held around 4,143,502 ETH.
Thomas "Tom" Lee, Bitmine's Chairman, emphasized the company's strategic focus. He stated, "Bitmine's sole focus remains creating stockholder value, achieving this by accretively acquiring ETH per share, optimizing yield and income on its ETH holdings, and strategically investing the balance sheet on 'moonshots' and leveraging the company's strong community and market position to generate additional returns."
The scale of these moves has significant implications for the Ethereum ecosystem. By staking nearly an additional $1 billion in assets, BitMine directly enhances the security of the Ethereum network under its proof-of-stake model. This large-scale staking also reduces the immediately sellable supply of ETH on exchanges, which can influence market liquidity and price stability.
Financial analysts view these actions as a powerful bullish signal, indicating long-term institutional confidence in Ethereum's utility and future. The moves reflect a broader trend of institutional "infrastructure capture," where major players secure foundational roles in critical Web3 systems. BitMine's position is contextualized among other large stakers: while Lido DAO leads with ~9.5 million ETH staked and Coinbase holds ~4.2 million, BitMine's ~0.91 million staked ETH positions it as a significant pure-play institutional investor.
