In a major move for blockchain interoperability, the popular self-custody wallet MetaMask has officially rolled out native support for the TRON network. The integration, confirmed by TRON DAO, is now live across both the MetaMask mobile app and browser extension, bringing TRON's full functionality directly into the wallet.
The update allows users to manage TRON-based assets like TRX and interact with TRON dApps without needing separate wallets or complex bridging workflows. This is part of MetaMask's broader strategy, developed by Consensys, to evolve from an Ethereum-centric tool into a universal gateway for Web3. The integration follows earlier expansions to support Solana and Bitcoin, aiming to create a unified multichain experience.
With this support, MetaMask users can seamlessly swap assets across TRON, EVM-compatible networks, Solana, and Bitcoin from a single interface. Key functionalities include sending USDT on the TRON network, staking TRX, and connecting directly to TRON-based decentralized applications, leveraging the network's fast confirmation times and low transaction costs.
The partnership between ConsenSys and TRON DAO was first announced in August of the previous year, initially focusing on making TRON's blockchain data accessible through ConsenSys's Infura development suite. This wallet integration marks the completion of a key milestone in that collaborative roadmap.
Sam Elfarra, a community spokesperson at TRON DAO, stated the integration broadens access to a blockchain that underpins significant real-world payment flows and DeFi activity. TRON has become a core settlement layer for global stablecoin activity, processing over $21 billion in daily stablecoin transfer volume.
Rizvi Haider, staff product manager at MetaMask, emphasized the goal is to meet users where they are by supporting the networks they actively use, reducing reliance on bridges and wrapped assets which add complexity and risk. The collaboration aims to lower barriers to entry, especially in regions like Asia, Latin America, and Africa where TRON has seen strong adoption for payments and remittances.
