RippleX, the development arm of Ripple, has issued an urgent notice to all XRP Ledger (XRPL) node operators and validators, warning them to upgrade their servers to rippled version 3.0.0 before the critical deadline of Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Failure to do so will result in nodes being "amendment-blocked," a network safeguard that effectively sidelines outdated software once new consensus rules activate.
Nodes that miss the deadline and become amendment-blocked will be unable to determine ledger validity, submit or process transactions, or participate in network consensus and future amendment voting. This could severely disrupt operations for exchanges and other services relying on these nodes, potentially degrading deposit and withdrawal processing. The urgency is underscored by recent experience; during the December 2025 update cycle, nearly 45% of nodes were at risk of disconnection before upgrading.
The upgrade is mandatory due to a set of five critical amendments that have already met the network's 80% approval threshold from trusted validators and are scheduled for activation on January 27. These amendments focus on correctness and standardization:
fixTokenEscrowV1 corrects an accounting error in multi-party token (MPT) escrows.
fixAMMClawbackRounding addresses rounding behavior for LP token balances during Automated Market Maker (AMM) clawbacks.
fixPriceOracleOrder standardizes the order of asset pair data for price oracles.
fixMPTDeliveredAmount adds missing metadata summarizing the actual delivered amount in MPT payment transactions.
fixKeyletField addresses an issue with keylet fields.
RippleX emphasized that these fixes reduce edge-case risk and align data handling across the ledger, making older software incompatible. The organization's reminder serves as a final call to action to avoid operational disruptions.
Looking further ahead, RippleX highlighted another significant upgrade: the "permissioned domains" amendment (XLS 80) is scheduled for activation on February 4, 2026. This feature, which has already achieved majority support, is designed to provide a compliance framework for institutions, allowing for privacy controls and more stringent transaction validation for regulated use cases like financial services.
Additionally, version 3.0.0 includes code paths for upcoming "Smart Features" such as the Lending Protocol and Dynamic MPTs, which are expected to open for validator voting later in Q1 2026, positioning upgraded nodes to participate in future governance.
