Zcash (ZEC) has broken below the critical $300 support level, trading near $245 at press time, as bearish momentum intensifies. The breakdown has flipped the $300 level into resistance, with the next key downside target being the $240–$244 support zone. If this area fails, analysts warn of a potential slide toward the $200–$210 psychological zone.
Technical indicators paint a bleak picture. The price action shows a pattern of lower highs and lower lows, with trendline resistance capping any recovery attempts. While the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) shows compression and hints at oversold conditions, any rebound attempt requires stronger volume and macro support to be sustainable. Without it, relief rallies are likely to fade into renewed selling pressure.
On lower timeframes, a sharp capitulation move saw ZEC decline from around $270 into the $238–$240 demand zone. Buyers responded at this level, forming a hammer candle with a long lower wick that rejected prices below $240, followed by two consecutive green candles forming a higher low. This suggests dip demand is emerging, but the broader trend remains bearish. Resistance for any recovery sits between $260 and $280.
Beyond price action, Zcash faces significant headwinds. The privacy-coin sector is under persistent regulatory scrutiny and faces competition from newer privacy solutions, which continues to weigh on overall sentiment.
In an exclusive interview with 99Bitcoins, Arjun Khemani, an advisor to the Winklevoss-backed Zcash project Cypherpunk, presented a long-term bullish thesis. He argued that Zcash's value proposition is not a multi-billion dollar narrative but a "trillion-dollar asset" essential for a free digital society. Khemani emphasized Zcash's optional shielding (private by default, compliant when needed) and its scaling roadmap.
A key technological focus is quantum resistance. Khemani stated that Zcash already has a quantum advantage for shielded addresses and outlined the roadmap: the Tachyon upgrade (based on Halo 2) will bring full post-quantum privacy and quantum recoverability in the near term, with full quantum proofing targeted for 2027–2028.
The project has faced internal challenges, including the entire Electric Coin Company (ECC) team moving to wallet development in January 2026, which created uncertainty (FUD). In response, the Zcash Foundation is replacing the zcashd node with Zebra, deploying the Z3 stack, and integrating FROST multi-signature technology. Khemani suggested this shift to a more market-based structure could be "super bullish" long-term.
Despite the bear market, shielded supply has stabilized around 5,000 ZEC, indicating sustained user interest in private transactions. ZEC's price collapsed from a high of $720 in November 2025 to current levels near $250. 99Bitcoins analysts note a double-top pattern that could point to a target of $163, driven by risk-off rotation, thin liquidity, and the team exodus.
