Bitcoin is approaching a pivotal resistance zone around $82,000, marking its third major rejection point in the current downtrend, as analysts warn of a potentially challenging summer ahead. The cryptocurrency closed down 1.05% in its last session, with technical indicators flashing caution signals across multiple timeframes.
Analyst MooninPapa highlighted on X that Bitcoin is mirroring a 2022 fractal pattern, where a 52% pullback from the cycle top was followed by a push back into the Ichimoku cloud. The setup is "almost identical," according to the analyst, who warns that filling the $81,000 CME gap would not constitute a reversal signal. MooninPapa expects both May and June to remain red, with BTC dominance targeting 60.95%.
Ethereum is showing more weakness, having already broken its first support fan line. The next meaningful support sits around $2,283. Three CME gaps are currently open: BTC between $77,000 and $79,000, ETH between $2,300 and $2,353, and SOL from $149 to $153. These gaps tend to get filled, but the direction of the move remains uncertain.
In a separate analysis, CryptoPatel noted that Bitcoin is approaching the 200-day exponential moving average (EMA) at $82,000 for the third time. This level has acted as resistance since October 2025, with each prior approach resulting in rejection. ChartNerdTA suggested that another rejection is more likely than a clean breakout, potentially leading to a slide toward descending support in Q3.
Ali Charts flagged the -0.5 MVRV pricing band at $73,700 as a critical support level. Holding this level could open a path toward the mean at $96,000, while losing it would invalidate the bullish scenario and potentially send Bitcoin toward the realized price near $55,000.
Stablecoin dominance continues to rise, which is rarely bullish for crypto prices broadly. Meanwhile, the DXY is being watched for a move above 98.936, and USDJPY is near the dangerous level of 159.852. MooninPapa issued caution flags on several altcoins, including TRX, SKY, CHZ, MORPHO, RENDER, KAS, TAO, and NEAR, as momentum starts cracking.
