Nordic Bitcoin education group Bitcoin Beyond 66 has launched an open-source AI tool called The Bitcoin Evidence Base to counter environmental criticisms and misinformation about Bitcoin's energy consumption. The tool is designed as a searchable response engine that generates structured, research-backed replies to common claims regarding Bitcoin mining's carbon footprint, electricity usage, and grid demand.
Users can input specific claims or links, and the AI system produces replies in direct, balanced, or softer tones, depending on the communication context. The tool draws from published research, industry reports, and energy data, including findings from the University of Cambridge's April 2025 report, which indicates that renewables power more than 52% of Bitcoin mining. Additionally, the database compares Bitcoin's energy mix with traditional banking and other sectors.
The initiative aims to address what the group describes as outdated or weak claims still used in public debates. By providing faster access to verified material, the tool helps reduce the spread of misleading information across social platforms. The database also includes information on stranded energy, excess power, renewable integration, and studies linking Bitcoin mining to potential environmental benefits such as grid support, methane reduction, and flexible energy demand.
Bitcoin Beyond 66 incorporated a communication model developed by Bitcoin environmental advocate Daniel Batten, which encourages users to acknowledge earlier concerns before presenting updated data. This approach fosters clearer discussions and avoids aggressive responses. The project remains open to new research submissions from contributors, allowing the evidence base to evolve as new Bitcoin mining data emerges.
The launch comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Bitcoin mining by governments, climate groups, and global institutions. Supporters argue that newer data demonstrates a shift toward lower-carbon energy sources, with miners increasingly utilizing renewable power, flare gas, and surplus electricity. Bitcoin Beyond 66 framed the tool as an educational project rather than a promotional campaign, with the primary goal of helping users counter Bitcoin energy FUD with sourced information.
