XRP Ledger sidechain Xahau completed a major roadmap milestone with the launch of blockchain-based settlement for euro-denominated inward remittances to Ethiopia. Global payments infrastructure company TerraPay partnered with Cooperative Bank of Oromia to build the settlement infrastructure, developed in collaboration with the Inclusive Financial Technology Foundation (INFTF).
The initiative required close coordination with Ethiopian financial authorities to establish the regulatory and technical framework for the blockchain-based operations, positioning Xahau within a regulated payments structure rather than an experimental blockchain application. The official Xahau Network account confirmed the milestone, emphasizing the ecosystem’s growing utility as more financial settlement activity moves onto the XRP Ledger environment.
The launch expands XRP Ledger technology into a critical remittance corridor—Ethiopia receives millions of international transfers from Europe each year—and adds another real-world payment use case at a time of rising institutional involvement. In related developments, the XRP Ledger Foundation introduced a new leadership team: Brett Mollin as Executive Director, Denis Angell as Chief Technology Officer, Rene Huijsen as Director of Operations, and Hussein Zangana (known as Vet) as Director of Community. Meanwhile, XRPL version 3.1.3 rolled out with a fix amendment, and Ripple, JPMorgan, Mastercard, and Ondo Finance completed the first cross-border redemption of tokenized US Treasuries on the XRP Ledger.
