On May 19, 2026, Kyunghyang Games reported that a free survival horror game called Beyond the Dark on Valve’s Steam platform had been flagged by IT YouTuber Eric Parker for containing malicious code aimed at cryptocurrency users. Parker’s video analysis found that malware was embedded in one of the game’s DLL files. When launched, it scanned the user’s MAC address and Chrome extensions, looking for signs of crypto wallet activity. It also had the ability to communicate with an external server to download further malicious payloads, possibly including keyloggers or tools to steal private keys. Steam has since removed the game.
This incident follows a similar case in which the game BlockBlasters was used to drain over $150,000 from victims’ wallets. Security experts advise anyone who downloaded ‘Beyond the Dark’ to run a full antivirus scan, review Chrome extensions, and move crypto assets to a new wallet with fresh keys. The attack exploits the trust users place in popular platforms and underscores the growing intersection between gaming and crypto-targeted threats.
