Cyber Capital founder Justin Bons publicly called for Charles Hoskinson’s removal from Cardano, igniting a fierce governance debate. The trigger was Hoskinson’s proposal to shift governance discussions to a moderated Discord server, a move Bons labeled the “final straw.” He argued that centralizing debate in a controlled venue could give IOHK-aligned factions censorship power before proposals reach delegated representatives (DReps), warning of parallels to Bitcoin’s early forum battles.
Bons also criticized Cardano’s throughput, claiming ADA’s maximum capacity in 2026 is roughly 23 transactions per second based on block size limits and 20-second block times. His viral post on X emphasized that “actions speak louder than words” and insisted stakeholder governance was made for such a confrontation.
Hoskinson’s side framed the Discord plan as an effort to professionalize Voltaire-era governance, reducing noise and algorithmic amplification on X. He cited the Midnight project’s moderated community as a model for structured, low-toxicity discussion before on-chain voting.
The community reaction was sharply divided. Supporters accused Bons of spreading FUD, with Snek co-founder CardanoRami noting fatigue over governance-related flooding on timelines. Others, like Constitutional Delegate CashAnvil, rejected outside pressure, while some remained open to neutral moderation via Intersect. The episode highlights deepening tensions as Cardano approaches funding proposals and Ouroboros Leios upgrades, making its self-governance experiment more contentious and public.
