On June 27, 2026, a wallet address linked to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin transferred 7,000 ETH, worth approximately $11.06 million, to a new wallet. The move came after roughly a year of inactivity from that address.
Blockchain monitoring service Onchain Lens flagged the transaction, and on-chain analysts believe the funds are likely intended for deposit onto a centralized exchange, based on the wallet’s previous behavior. Earlier, the same address had moved 1,300 ETH ($3.19 million), which was later deposited into the regulated platform Paxos.
After the transfer, the original wallet still holds 20,001 ETH, valued at around $31.6 million. The recipient wallet had not moved the funds further at the time of reporting, leaving room for speculation. Ethereum was trading at roughly $1,583, up 2% on the day.
Such large transfers from high-profile wallets often spark discussion, but a move to a new address does not confirm a sale – funds may be shifted for custody, security, or organizational reasons. No statement has been made by Vitalik Buterin or his representatives regarding the purpose of the transfer.
