Morph, a blockchain network focused on payments, stablecoins, and open finance, has officially launched Morph Tachyon, a new independent Layer 1 designed specifically for high-performance onchain trading markets. The announcement expands Morph from a single general-purpose network into a connected financial ecosystem, where the existing Ethereum Layer 2 continues to handle payments and stablecoins, while Tachyon serves as a dedicated trading environment.
The new chain addresses the unique demands of live trading platforms, which require instant order processing, cancellations, margin updates, and liquidations—especially during volatile periods. General-purpose blockchains often force trading apps to compromise on speed and execution quality. Tachyon eliminates this by providing its own consensus, settlement, and state, isolating trading activity from other network traffic.
Tachyon’s core specifications include: 200-millisecond target block times, throughput of up to 200,000 transactions per second, instant finality via a HotStuff-derived BFT consensus (with no block reorganizations), a gas-free trading experience that removes the need for a native gas token, and a custom EVM-compatible architecture supporting standard wallets, address formats, and developer tools. The chain is designed not only for decentralized exchanges but also for market makers, quantitative teams, vault builders, brokers, and analytics platforms.
As an early adopter, PopDEX, a trader-first decentralized perpetual exchange, will build its trading infrastructure on Tachyon. PopDEX selected the chain because it prioritizes order-book and derivatives workloads, offering instant finality crucial for quote updates, margin changes, and liquidations. Morph and PopDEX plan to collaborate on improving execution quality, liquidity, and capital efficiency for onchain derivatives.
Renna Ba, Head of Ecosystem at Morph, emphasized that payments and trading require different infrastructure, and that Tachyon represents a step toward dedicated systems that fit how onchain markets operate. Additional ecosystem partners will be announced in the coming months.
