Shiba Inu On-Chain Metrics Diverge as Shibarium Activity Soars but Price Stays Stuck

Shiba Inu investors received conflicting signals this week as network activity on the project’s Layer 2 blockchain, Shibarium, exploded by 74%, while exchange reserves continued their steady decline to a new historic low. Despite these ostensibly bullish on-chain developments, SHIB price remains under heavy bearish pressure, failing to break above key resistance.

Data from Shibarium Scan revealed daily transactions jumped from 661 on July 21 to 1,151 on July 22—a sharp 74% increase in just 24 hours. Such a spike typically signals growing user engagement and adoption, yet the token’s price did not react accordingly. SHIB traded around $0.000004166, down 1.54% over 24 hours, with only a meager 0.51% weekly gain. Buyers repeatedly failed to push the price above the $0.0000043 resistance, leaving the token rangebound.

Simultaneously, on-chain data showed exchange reserves dropping to approximately 86.1 trillion SHIB, well below the 100 trillion mark once thought hard to breach. Negative netflows, with withdrawals exceeding deposits by around 145 billion SHIB, highlight a persistent trend toward self-custody. This thinning liquid supply theoretically reduces immediate selling pressure, but bearish technicals have so far overwhelmed the positive supply dynamics. SHIB remains below its 26-day, 50-day, and 100-day exponential moving averages, and the Relative Strength Index is near 38, still below neutral.

Market-wide conditions add to the headwind. Analytics firm Santiment noted that cryptocurrency trading volumes have slumped to the lowest levels in nearly two years, driven by macroeconomic uncertainty and fading risk appetite. For SHIB, low volume makes any rally fragile, though it could also amplify a recovery once sellers step back. For now, the divergence between improving network fundamentals and a stagnant price leaves the token in a precarious balance, with a breakout dependent on a resurgence of buying demand.
