Key takeaways:

  • Robinhood's UK approval could funnel retail flows into crypto, benefiting listed assets like BTC, ETH, and DOGE.
  • Shrinking crypto transaction revenue amid event contract surge signals waning short-term retail crypto speculation.
  • Robinhood's early regulatory foothold intensifies competition, potentially squeezing margins for existing crypto platforms.

Robinhood has secured registration with the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to offer cryptocurrency services, placing the trading platform on the regulator’s list of approved cryptoasset firms. The FCA added Robinhood’s UK business to the register on July 31, confirming the company meets anti-money laundering rules for crypto firms. The approval gives Robinhood an early position before the UK introduces its broader crypto licensing framework, with applications opening at the end of September and closing in February 2027, and the full regime expected in October 2027.

More than 50 companies appear on the FCA’s crypto register, including Ripple, Kraken, BlackRock and BNY. Robinhood’s registration under the existing framework may reduce the regulatory workload when the new authorization process begins. President of Robinhood International, Wander Rutgers, called the approval “the beginning of a new chapter” and a step toward bringing its investing platform to UK customers.

Alongside the registration, Robinhood reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $1.3 billion, up 32.25% year over year and 2% above estimates. Transaction-based revenue rose 44% to $776 million, driven largely by options trading ($342 million) and event contracts ($156 million, compared with just $10 million a year earlier). Crypto transaction revenue contributed $100 million, down from $160 million in Q2 2025. Net income totaled $560 million, beating estimates by 43.64%, and adjusted EBITDA reached $741 million with a 56.65% margin. Funded accounts grew 7% to 28.4 million.

Robinhood’s event contracts segment emerged as its fastest-growing transaction business, while the company also launched Robinhood Chain, Stock Tokens in more than 120 countries, and Robinhood Earn, and completed the acquisition of WonderFi during the quarter. The registration removes a key regulatory barrier for Robinhood’s planned crypto expansion into the UK market.
