Key takeaways:

  • Tokenized equities data integration may catalyze institutional interest in RWA-focused DeFi platforms.
  • SpaceX listing demo underscores how events in traditional finance can now directly impact crypto markets.
  • Wider RWA data accessibility could increase oracle usage, potentially benefiting Chainlink and similar protocols.

CoinMarketCap has launched a new set of APIs that bring real-world asset (RWA) data directly into its Pro API suite. The expansion introduces seven endpoints covering tokenized equities, commodities, currencies, government securities, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and real estate. Developers can now programmatically access structured, real-time and historical data on these tokenized instruments through a single integration.

The RWA endpoints are designed to span the full data lifecycle, providing ID mapping for stable asset identification, metadata for descriptive and company information, aggregate pricing and volume metrics via quotes and asset-list endpoints, and details on underlying on-chain tokens, trading markets, and issuers. Core functionality is available on CoinMarketCap’s free Basic plan and above. The launch was timed with a practical demonstration: immediately after SpaceX completed its public listing, CoinMarketCap published a developer guide showing how to retrieve tokenized SpaceX stock data using the same endpoints, linking a major traditional finance event directly to on-chain data workflows.

The new endpoints join a broad API ecosystem that already delivers real-time and historical crypto prices, centralized and decentralized exchange data, derivatives, liquidation feeds, and proprietary indexes like the CoinMarketCap Fear & Greed Index and CMC20. The platform also supports WebSocket streaming, agent-native access through a hosted MCP server, and a Keyless Public API. CEO Rush stated, “Our goal is simple: to be the first and last data API a team needs,” emphasizing that developers should not have to stitch together multiple providers to build serious crypto products.

The expansion follows CoinMarketCap’s recent ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27701 certifications, underscoring its commitment to security and privacy. The press release highlighted the platform’s role as the “Home Of Crypto,” with over 1 billion monthly page views and data on 53 million tracked cryptocurrencies, used by major outlets including Forbes, Bloomberg, CNBC, and The Wall Street Journal.
