Key takeaways:

  • BlackRock's 3% Bitcoin allocation signals institutional endorsement, potentially accelerating Bitcoin's mainstream adoption.
  • The low-fee structure may attract conservative investors, gradually boosting Bitcoin ETF inflows and price stability.
  • Expect similar hybrid ETF offerings from competitors, structurally increasing Bitcoin's long-term demand base.

BlackRock expanded its Canadian ETF lineup on Monday with two new funds, including the iShares Equity + Bitcoin ETF Portfolio (IBQT), which holds a 3% allocation to Bitcoin. Both products began trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange through the RBC iShares alliance, adding equity and digital asset options to the firm’s Canadian fund range.

IBQT combines 97% exposure to Canadian, U.S., international, and emerging-market equities with 3% in Bitcoin via the iShares Bitcoin ETF (IBIT). The fund primarily holds other iShares ETFs rather than individual stocks, creating a diversified, single-ticker portfolio. It carries an annual management fee of 0.22% and is designed for long-term capital growth.

Alongside IBQT, BlackRock also launched the iShares Core MSCI All-International Equity Index ETF (XINT), which tracks over 5,000 companies across more than 40 developed and emerging markets outside North America. XINT charges 0.23% annually and serves as a building block for international diversification.

Both ETFs operate under BlackRock Asset Management Canada through the RBC iShares alliance, which leverages RBC’s distribution network. As of June 30, BlackRock’s iShares business managed about $6.2 trillion across more than 1,700 ETFs globally.
