Deribit, a subsidiary of Coinbase, has secured a Broker-Dealer Licence from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), a move the company says will upgrade its spot trading infrastructure and connect clients directly to Coinbase Exchange liquidity.
The approval, reported on 13 August 2026, allows Deribit to route spot buy, sell and trade orders to Coinbase Exchange. According to Deribit, this should give users deeper order books, more efficient execution and access to a broader set of digital assets. Assets acquired through the new spot platform can also be used as collateral for Deribit’s derivatives trading, which has historically focused on crypto options and futures.
Coinbase separately highlighted the integration on social media, confirming that Deribit’s spot execution can now tap into Coinbase Exchange liquidity. The companies framed the move as a way to improve price stability and execution quality for traders on both platforms. The development also signals closer operational ties between the two exchange businesses.
The announcement comes amid mixed momentum across crypto markets and what some traders describe as thin flow conditions. Deribit said the licence could help attract more institutional clients by providing regulatory clarity in Dubai and stronger liquidity access. Market participants are expected to watch trading volumes and liquidity metrics on Deribit in the coming weeks to gauge whether the integration changes derivatives and spot trading dynamics.
