Zcash (ZEC) has entered a critical technical juncture after a failed push above the $500 psychological level, with prices consolidating in the high $480s to low $490s. Short-term daily indicators lean bearish, while weekly and monthly readings retain a Buy bias, suggesting the pullback may be a correction within a broader recovery rather than a confirmed long-term reversal.
Crypto analyst Michael Isakov identified a bearish head-and-shoulders structure on ZEC futures that has broken below its neckline following two rejections from a larger overhead pattern. The breakdown occurred while ZEC traded near $480–$493. Isakov marked the $300 area as a potential longer-term support zone, but noted the move has not yet produced decisive follow-through. Chart patterns can fail, especially within a broader consolidation, and volume confirmation remains important.
A separate 4-hour scenario from @cryptocrafters9 sees a possible advance toward $550 channel resistance before a retracement to approximately $425, followed by a liquidity sweep and a larger bullish expansion into September. Key levels are therefore $500 and $550 on the upside, with $425 and $300 as downside references. TradingView’s daily rating is Sell for moving averages, but oscillators are neutral, while one-week and one-month ratings remain Buy.
Fundamental context comes from Zcash’s Ironwood upgrade, also known as NU6.3, activated on July 28. It introduced a formally verified shielded pool after a vulnerability was found in the previous Orchard pool. The old Orchard pool held about 3.66 million ZEC at activation and was closed to new deposits, with users migrating into the new Ironwood pool. Grayscale highlighted the upgrade as a transition away from legacy zcashd software toward the Rust-based Zebra implementation.
The ZEC outlook remains dependent on whether price can reclaim and hold $500. A sustained breakout would weaken the immediate bearish case and could open the way toward $550. Conversely, continued weakness below the current range would make $425 increasingly important, with deeper support near $300 only relevant if the broader structure deteriorates.
