Key takeaways:

  • Binance's removal of eight USDC margin pairs suggests a strategic shift toward USDT-based margin liquidity.
  • Affected tokens like LAYER, AUCTION, and VELODROME may face forced-selling pressure before August 21.
  • Traders should migrate USDC margin positions to spot or USDT pairs to avoid liquidation.

Major crypto exchange Binance has announced the delisting of eight USDC-denominated margin trading pairs from its Cross Margin platform, with three of those also removed from Isolated Margin. The removals are scheduled for August 21 at 06:00 UTC.

The affected Cross Margin pairs are AUCTION/USDC, BEAMX/USDC, CETUS/USDC, HUMA/USDC, LAYER/USDC, NXPC/USDC, UMA/USDC and VELODROME/USDC. The Isolated Margin pairs being delisted are HUMA/USDC, LAYER/USDC and NXPC/USDC.

Binance Margin will suspend isolated margin borrowing for HUMA/USDC, LAYER/USDC and NXPC/USDC on August 18 at 06:00 UTC. Users are already unable to transfer affected assets into their Isolated Margin accounts through manual transfers or Auto-Transfer Mode.

On August 21, Binance will close users' positions, perform automatic settlement and cancel all pending orders for the listed pairs. Users are advised to close positions or move assets from Margin Accounts to Spot Accounts before the deadline, as position updates will be unavailable during the roughly three-hour delisting process.

Separately, Binance will conduct wallet maintenance for BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) on August 20 at 06:00 UTC. Deposits and withdrawals on BNB Smart Chain will be temporarily suspended from 05:55 UTC and resume after maintenance, expected to last about one hour. Trading of tokens on the network will not be affected.
