NAVI Protocol has officially introduced NAVI Prime, an institutional-grade lending platform built on the Sui blockchain. The launch is described as the protocol’s most significant service overhaul in three years, moving beyond traditional shared-pool DeFi lending toward independently curated markets with isolated risk frameworks.
Unlike conventional DeFi lending models that combine multiple assets into a single liquidity pool, NAVI Prime uses an isolated risk vault structure. Specialist curators can create independent liquidity markets for specific assets or strategies, allowing each market to carry its own terms and risk parameters. This separation is aimed at institutional participants who require granular control over exposure and risk management.
The development process took more than four months and included over three security audits, according to the team. The focus on security and customization is intended to bridge the gap between traditional finance and decentralized lending. NAVI Protocol has grown substantially since its 2023 launch: it reached a peak total value locked of $1 billion, served more than 1.1 million cumulative users, and at one point commanded roughly 40% of the SUI ecosystem’s DeFi market share.
The launch comes as institutional interest in DeFi continues to rise, while regulatory and operational hurdles remain. NAVI Prime’s isolated vault model addresses concerns about systemic risk in shared pools — a lesson drawn from past DeFi exploits. If successful, the design could influence how other lending protocols structure their services and attract institutional capital.
The announcement is positioned as a strategic shift toward serving institutional clients, backed by a maturing DeFi infrastructure on Sui. Market participants will likely watch whether NAVI Prime meaningfully increases activity in the SUI ecosystem and the broader altcoin lending sector.
