Shiba Inu Community Warned of Fake Shibarium Migration Scam

2 hour ago 2 sources negative

Key takeaways:

  • Attackers weaponized official channels, suggesting sophistication that may keep SHIB-related assets under near-term pressure.
  • The indefinite LEASH v2 delay leaves BONE and LEASH vulnerable to confusion-driven volatility.
  • Treat unsolicited migration requests as wallet-drain red flags; verify updates exclusively via shib.io.

Holders across the Shiba Inu ecosystem were urged to remain on high alert after community contributors identified a coordinated disinformation campaign pushing fake Shibarium migration claims. Mazrael, an advisor for the Shiba Eternity game and project contributor, confirmed on August 15 that no active technical migration process exists for SHIB, BONE, LEASH, or TREAT.

According to Mazrael, an account using the handle “someonesmart” promoted fraudulent Telegram groups where users were encouraged to swap assets as part of a supposed mandatory upgrade. The attacker or group managed to mute official channels and remove legitimate developers and administrators before spreading links to malicious contracts inside the official ShibariumTech and Bone ShibaSwap Telegram groups.

Official protocol representatives clarified that users should not transfer current holdings of BONE, SHIB, LEASH, or TREAT to external addresses. Those staking on Shibarium or using ShibaSwap should continue interacting only with existing contracts. The technical team warned that any request to approve unknown contracts or swap BONE for replacement tokens is a direct wallet-draining attempt.

The fake migration activity comes as the community awaits the transition to LEASH v2. That upgrade was planned after a vulnerability in the original token code compromised its fixed-supply design through a rebase function. The replacement contract has already been patched to prevent additional minting, and the entire LEASH v2 supply is secured in a multi-signature wallet.

When the final migration occurs, version 1 contracts will be locked or sent to burn addresses and new tokens will be distributed proportionally. However, there is no formal schedule or definitive date for the LEASH v2 transition. Official instructions will be published exclusively through the domain shib.io.
