Key takeaways:

  • Nexo's regulated entry could normalize crypto-backed borrowing in Australia, pressuring incumbents to lower rates.
  • Nexo Growth's unsecured claim structure exposes yield investors to counterparty risk beyond market fluctuations.
  • ASIC's pending AFSL decision may force product changes, mirroring Block Earner's licensing outcome.

Nexo has officially launched regulated crypto-backed Credit Lines in Australia on August 19, 2026, after becoming an authorized Credit Representative under Australia’s National Consumer Credit Protection Act.

Eligible customers can borrow Australian dollars or stablecoins against supported digital assets without selling them. Advertised annual interest rates range from 0.9% to 21.9%, depending on the product and the client’s loyalty tier. Nexo says funds are typically available within 24 hours, with no fixed term and no origination fee.

The Australian rollout also includes Nexo Booster, which allows eligible users to increase a digital asset position by up to three times, Nexo Growth, a yield product advertising returns of up to 10% annually, and the Wealth Club loyalty program. Nexo Growth returns are not guaranteed, and users transfer ownership of deposited assets to Nexo Australia in exchange for an unsecured contractual claim.

Nexo Australia operates under Credit Representative Number 580430. Its regulated credit products are serviced by Avgi Pty Ltd, which holds Australian Credit Licence 567308. The company is also registered with AUSTRAC as a digital currency exchange provider and belongs to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority.

The distinction matters in Australia: the High Court previously ruled that Block Earner’s former yield product required a financial services licence. Nexo says it has applied for an Australian Financial Services Licence, but ASIC has not yet determined that application. The launch expands Australia’s regulated crypto credit market, though borrowing against crypto carries liquidation risk if collateral values fall.
