Cardano's ADA is showing early signs of a possible reversal even as short-term price action remains subdued. On August 19, ADA traded at $0.17493, up 0.29%, while holding inside an ascending wedge with the 50-day EMA near $0.17927 and the 20-day EMA near $0.17989 still above price. Analysts noted a bullish divergence building on lower timeframes following an unusually persistent stretch of daily red candles from August 7 to August 17.
The ecosystem is also making notable DeFi moves. Cardano’s DRep community passed the $120 million Cardano Prime DeFi funding proposal beyond its approval threshold as of August 12, a treasury-backed effort aimed at improving DeFi liquidity. Cardano’s native stablecoin market capitalization crossed $62.5 million, up roughly 55% since USDCX launched, with USDCX holding about $44 million in reserves.
Longer-term, crypto analyst Dan Gambardello mapped an ADA price target near $2.60 based on Cardano returning to its previous market capitalization peak. Because circulating supply has increased since the prior cycle, a return to that market cap would imply a lower token price than the previous record. From recent levels near $0.20, such a move would require a gain of roughly 1,200%, making it a long-term scenario rather than a near-term technical call.
Network metrics remain cautionary. Cardano has more than 4.5 million token holders, but active addresses have fallen to about 189,900 from a November 2021 peak of 3.6 million, and total value locked has cooled to levels last seen in late 2022. This mixed backdrop leaves the Cardano reversal thesis dependent on stronger demand and broader market recovery.
