On Aug. 26, blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence flagged a new transaction from a cryptocurrency wallet linked to the U.S. government. The address moved approximately 0.0048 BTC, worth about $377 at current prices, from funds seized from Alameda Research accounts on Binance and Binance.US roughly three years ago. Arkham did not state that the transfer represented a sale, and the destination of the Bitcoin was not specified in its alert.
Although the amount was small, the activity drew attention because the U.S. government currently holds about 324,552 BTC in associated addresses. With Bitcoin trading near $78,500, the total value is around $25.5 billion. Such small transfers are often used for wallet management, test transactions, custody infrastructure changes, or internal asset reorganization, rather than immediate market sales.
The movement follows several recent government actions tied to FTX and Alameda seizures. In May, Arkham identified roughly $1.9 million of seized altcoins—including Render (RNDR), Uniswap (UNI), The Sandbox (SAND), Mask Network (MASK), and Axie Infinity (AXS)—being transferred to Coinbase Prime. In July, government-linked wallets moved more than $288 million in seized Bitcoin and Ether to Coinbase Prime.
The Alameda holdings are part of a broader forfeiture effort stemming from FTX's collapse. Arkham said in 2024 that three Alameda Research accounts on Binance and Binance.US containing more than $300 million had been seized, part of a forfeiture action involving over $700 million in FTX- and Alameda-related assets. Those seized holdings included more than $102 million in Bitcoin and wrapped Bitcoin at the time.
Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison and ordered to forfeit more than $11 billion. A U.S. Department of Justice inspector general report said the U.S. Marshals Service received a $627.9 million interbank settlement in October 2025 as partial payment toward the $11 billion Alameda forfeiture order, with subsequent payments made to victims.
