Pi Network’s PI token has attracted renewed attention after two ecosystem developments: speculation around a possible decentralized exchange (DEX) environment test and the return of OpenPay’s cash-in feature. The token has staged a mild recovery in early August, with one report citing a price around $1.20, up approximately 5% from July lows, according to CoinGecko. Other coverage has pointed to a narrower mid-2025 range near $0.60 to $0.70, underscoring the token’s limited price discovery outside major exchange listings.
The potential DEX test is significant because Pi Network has more than 60 million mobile miners since its 2019 launch but has faced criticism over the absence of a mainnet launch and limited real-world applications. A DEX environment could expand PI’s utility beyond mining rewards and create a new trading venue. However, the project has not officially confirmed the DEX plans; optimism is based on community discussions and developer activity.
Separately, OpenPay, a payments platform integrated with the Pi ecosystem, has reintroduced its cash-in feature after a temporary suspension for maintenance and compliance checks. This restores a fiat on-ramp, making it easier for Pi holders to deposit funds and convert PI into usable currency. The move is seen as a positive signal that the team is building infrastructure to connect Pi’s ecosystem with traditional finance and improve real-world usability.
From a technical perspective, PI has formed short-term support around $1.10 and has moved above its 50-day moving average, but resistance near $1.30 remains a key hurdle. A breakout above that level could signal additional upside, while failure to hold $1.10 might lead to a retest of July lows. Broader market stability—with Bitcoin near $60,000 and Ethereum near $2,800—has provided a supportive backdrop for altcoin movement, though PI’s limited exchange availability keeps its trading volume modest.
For holders, the DEX test and OpenPay cash-in return represent incremental steps toward a functional blockchain network. Still, risks remain: Pi Network has a history of roadmap delays, regulatory uncertainty, and no guarantee of a public DEX launch. Investors should approach cautiously and conduct their own research.
