Bitcoin processed 893,391 on-chain transactions in a single day on September 7, 2026, marking the fourth-highest daily transaction count in the network’s history, according to Galaxy Research. The firm said the figure exceeded 99% of all daily readings recorded since Bitcoin launched in 2009.
YCharts confirmed the total and showed a 23.4% increase from 723,854 transactions the previous day. Compared with 441,035 transactions on the same day in 2025, activity rose by approximately 102.6%. Galaxy Research did not identify a single event, application, or user group responsible for the increase.
Earlier Blockchair data placed Bitcoin’s record at 927,010 transactions on April 23, 2024, followed by 910,083 on September 8, 2024. On June 23, 2026, Bitcoin processed 862,979 transactions, which ranked third at the time. June 2026 averaged 651,655 daily transactions, up 90% from the 342,866 average in June 2025. By contrast, the median daily count in 2025 was 417,151, an 18% decline from 508,934 in 2024.
Research from CryptoQuant linked much of the 2026 growth to low-value transfers. Transactions below 0.01 BTC accounted for about 80% of Bitcoin transactions in 2026, compared with roughly 44% in 2023. Julio Moreno, head of research at CryptoQuant, noted that the economic value carried by these transfers remained small relative to their share of total activity.
Blockchain.com’s dashboard showed that while transactions climbed, active addresses fell 10.7% to about 415,000. Transferred value reached approximately $3.36 billion, up 33.8%, but total network fees declined 8.1% to around $191,073. BitInfoCharts recorded a median fee near 0.0000024 BTC, or about $0.19, with a median transfer value of roughly $34.69.
The report highlights that raw transaction counts do not necessarily reflect payment value, unique users, or investment demand. Cheap fees can allow automated systems or a small number of users to generate substantial activity, while exchanges and custodians may batch withdrawals. Galaxy Research did not attribute the September 2026 increase to Ordinals, Runes, or another specific protocol.
