Charles Schwab Filing Reveals Millions in XRP ETF Collateral

Key takeaways:

  • XRP ETF collateral acceptance by Schwab signals institutional trust building beyond speculative allocations.
  • Sixty percent price drawdown despite rising ETF adoption reveals TradFi flows alone won't move XRP.
  • Modest $4.8M positions suggest early institutional testing; larger asset managers' filings will confirm structural trend.

A regulatory filing from the Charles Schwab Family of Funds has revealed that XRP exchange-traded fund shares are being used as collateral within institutional money market operations. The Form N-MFP3 submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Sept. 8 shows the Schwab Prime Advantage Money Fund reported approximately $1.01 million in Grayscale XRP Trust ETF collateral, roughly $3.06 million in Canary XRP ETF shares, and about $702,000 in Franklin XRP ETF collateral.

Together, the three positions amount to nearly $4.8 million in XRP ETF shares posted as collateral. The disclosure does not confirm that Schwab's money market fund purchased the ETFs outright; Form N-MFP3 can identify securities used in collateral arrangements. Still, the development signals that XRP-linked investment vehicles are moving deeper into institutional finance.

The filing adds to a broader pattern of registered investment advisers and financial firms reporting XRP ETF exposure. Clear Creek Financial Management disclosed 11,621 shares of the Bitwise XRP ETF for the quarter ending June 30, while Leisure Capital Management reported 16,745 shares of the Franklin XRP ETF in its second-quarter Form 13F. Beacon Pointe Advisors and Brookstone Capital Management have also appeared among firms with XRP-linked ETF holdings.

Although individual positions remain relatively modest for large asset managers, recurring disclosures suggest XRP ETFs are gaining traction among institutional allocators. Despite this, the XRP token has remained under pressure and is currently trading about 60% below its record high.
