Ethereum is trading at $2,495, up 1.19% on the day, but prominent market strategist Tom Lee has circulated a much more aggressive target: $6,000 by December. That would require roughly 140% upside from current levels, a move that would dwarf Ethereum's already outsized August rally and has no clean historical precedent in a single quarter.
The bullish case is being reinforced by institutional accumulation. According to Arkham data, BitMine bought another 28,086 ETH — worth about $69.44 million — this week. BitMine now holds 5,929,198 ETH, valued at approximately $14.66 billion, representing 4.9% of the entire Ethereum supply. The firm would need to acquire an additional 170,802 ETH, or about $422.27 million, to reach a 5% supply milestone.
Technically, traders are watching the $2,550 resistance zone. A weekly close above that level would confirm a flag breakout and open a path toward $2,800–$2,920. In the near term, ETH looks more likely to consolidate between $2,438 and $2,550. The lower boundary matters because it sits at the 0.618 Fibonacci weekly pivot; a close below it could shift the bias bearish and put $2,310 and then $2,220 — near the 200-day EMA — into play as downside targets.
Despite the ambitious December target, the article frames the current setup as consolidation, not confirmation, with ETF inflows continuing to build in the background. ETH just closed out its strongest month since mid-2025, but sustaining that momentum through September’s tighter range remains the key test.
