Robinhood reported a sharp monthly recovery in crypto trading activity during August, with notional volume climbing 61% to $17.5 billion from $10.9 billion in July. The rebound was led by its Bitstamp exchange, which processed $10.1 billion of the total, while the Robinhood app accounted for $7.4 billion. App volume rose 72% month-over-month and Bitstamp volume increased 53%.
Despite the monthly improvement, activity remained 38% below the $28.1 billion recorded in August 2025. App volume was down 46% year-over-year, while Bitstamp declined 30%. Robinhood completed its roughly $200 million acquisition of Bitstamp in June 2025, gaining more than 50 licenses and registrations and a largely institutional client base, which has expanded its international and professional trading reach. Combined average daily crypto activity across both platforms was approximately $565 million in August.
Broader platform metrics also strengthened. Funded customers reached 28.6 million at the end of August, up from around 26.7 million a year earlier, and total platform assets climbed to $384 billion, a 26% annual increase. Net deposits hit $4 billion for the month, while margin balances rose to $21.5 billion. Prediction markets continued to grow even faster: customers traded 4.7 billion event contracts in August, down 23% from July but roughly 15 times the 300 million contracts from August 2025. Event-contract revenue had already surpassed crypto transaction revenue in the second quarter.
Robinhood has also expanded blockchain-based trading through Robinhood Chain, an Ethereum layer-2 network that launched its public mainnet on July 1. Decentralized exchanges on the network recorded approximately $1.6 billion in daily volume as of Sept. 1, though the chain experienced a 14-minute outage on Sept. 4. Shares of Robinhood closed 0.83% lower following the update, even as analysts at Mizuho and StoneX raised their price targets, with the company's next earnings report expected Nov. 4.
