Cardano Joins Official x402 Codebase for AI Payments

Cardano has reached a strategic milestone after a native implementation contributed by Cardano Foundation engineers was merged into the official x402 Foundation repository. The integration, confirmed by ecosystem developers, adds support for client, server, and facilitator components across Cardano mainnet, preprod, and preview environments.

Created by Coinbase and now managed by the Linux Foundation, the x402 open payment protocol standardizes micropayment flows under the HTTP 402 status code. This allows autonomous artificial intelligence agents and developers to settle transactions directly through API calls without registration friction, strengthening Cardano's multi-chain interoperability and its role in the emerging AI agent economy.

According to Phil from UPLC, the merge allows developers to use Cardano core code more directly when building decentralized applications. It can keep transaction builders in sync with the network, reduce separate implementations for ex-unit costing, and lower cases where transactions are overcosted because supporting tools are out of date. The update is described as a major saving in engineering work and money.

Despite the positive technical development, ADA price remains under pressure. Technical analysis using Elliott Wave labels and Fibonacci retracement levels points to possible support around the $0.175 to $0.19 area. As of writing, Cardano was trading at $0.2095, up 0.97% over 24 hours. The next phase for the ecosystem will focus on deploying commercial use cases across DeFi and automated tooling for autonomous agents.
