Key takeaways:

  • CertiK's central-bank deal signals CBDC security becoming a prerequisite, not afterthought, for digital currency adoption.
  • Kyrgyzstan's Digital Som may attract cautious institutional interest if AML/CFT and custody frameworks mature.
  • Watch for similar CBDC security partnerships, as regulators prioritize formal verification over post-launch fixes.

The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic (NBKR) and CertiK have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a long-term strategic partnership focused on security for the Digital Som central bank digital currency (CBDC) and broader digital asset oversight. Announced on September 15, 2026, the agreement brings CertiK into a central-bank environment with stringent security, compliance and operational requirements.

Under the MoU, the parties will exchange expertise and explore cooperation in blockchain and digital asset security, security assessments, formal verification, cybersecurity and operational resilience. CertiK will provide technical and strategic support, and the partnership will extend to regulatory advisory areas including AML/CFT, digital asset custody, security standards and licensing requirements. The sides also plan to explore deploying CertiK’s Supervision and Compliance solutions to strengthen ongoing risk monitoring and regulatory oversight.

Sanzhar Abdygaziev, Member of the NBKR Management Board, said the memorandum “establishes a framework for further dialogue and cooperation,” adding that the central bank sees value in sharing expertise in blockchain security, cybersecurity, AML/CFT and transaction monitoring. CertiK CEO Ronghui Gu noted that digital asset infrastructure requires security and risk management “from the earliest stages of design through ongoing operation.”

CertiK, which describes itself as the largest Web3 security services provider, says it has protected over $600 billion in digital assets across more than 150 countries since 2017. The release also notes CertiK has advised regulators in the United States and responded to consultations from the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
